Ekolite was founded on sustainability idea and values and named as the basis of Ecological and Lightweight designs. We aim at promoting all aspects of sustainability (ecological, economical, social) in all stages of value chain. Ekolite products are ecological innovations, because:
- Our raw materials are mainly based on renewable sources such as biomass and natural fibers.
- Case: wood bark is almost free of charge, excellent raw material instead of dumping or burning. We are developing new advanced composites from bark, forest residues, etc. biomass.
- We provide new ways to reuse wastes, recycled materials and by-products from industrial side-flows.
- Case: power plants have to pay more and more about mountains of biofuel ash, which can't be dumped anymore. We are developing ash based geopolymers, where heavy metals and other toxic wastes have been modified without harm to the environment or people.
- We develop products, which are economical and light-weight and save fiber, chemicals, energy and water
- Case: foaming increases the air content and porosity of our composites matrices, reduces the fiber amount and weight and improves absorption.
- Case: natural fiber composites can reduce the weight and fuel consumption of the vehicle.
- Case: thermal insulates made of natural fibers improve energy efficiency of buildings with affordable costs and environmentally friendly.
- We use recyclable materials and we reduce pollution
- Case: substitution of plastics and fiber glass. Natural fiber composite design can be recycled, crushed and grinded as raw material for a new composite product.
- Case: our innovation can absorb pollutants such as oil leakages from water or land
- We deliver lean production processes
- Case: our dry manufacturing processes and compact equipment require less water, chemicals and energy for composite production.
- We try to improve social sustainability
- Case: many countries waste millions of tons of very good local agro fibers. We have trialed agro fibers as a source for advanced composites with an opportunity to jobs and welfare in developing countries.
- Case: simple, low cost, natural fiber based constructions made of local raw materials can offer decent houses in developing countries and shelters for disaster areas.
